Designed by John Reid in 1979.
An accompanying statement reads:

The symbol is based on the hand the skilful use of which is common to the visual arts. The hand is symbolically engaged in its work and the four interrelated views of it delineate a sphere that represents the artist's statement. The outer circle alludes to the prevailing environment that encompasses the artist and his or her view of the world.
