Opposite: A Murray cod with small carp taken from its belly on the bank of the Wakool River, NSW. It was one of the last fish caught by professional fisherman Howie Davison before the revocation of inland commercial fishing licences in New South Wales. The cod's catch shows that native fish are fighting back says Howie.

The photograph was published in Uncharted Waters, edited by Daniel Connell for the Murray-Darling Basin Commission in 2003. The book explores the human and environmental impact of land use in the Murray-Darling Basin and is distributed by CSIRO Publishing
